Logo, Web Design, and Creation of a Shopify Website for HugoNova
Bringing the expertise of the hairdresser to your desktop
HugoNova is a new player in high-end hair products. But hold on, there was nothing yet! So, I took on the challenging project of setting up everything from branding to the full webshop. First, I dove into HugoNova's unique proposition: bringing the expertise of the hairdresser to your desktop. This vision suits a simple, targeted appearance. I was looking for a sleek, modern design with full focus on the content. The project's first challenge? A clear and distinctive logo.
The idea is to keep the branding as simple as possible. Therefore, I chose a logo consisting of the name only, direct and unmistakable. But there's also a need for an icon. To realize this, the H from Hugo and the N from Nova were combined. This subtly links the icon with the full logo, making it immediately recognizable. Simple yet effective.
Content is key
The proposition is based on content. The differentiating power lies in delivering high-quality content. Carefully written product descriptions contain unique tips and information about the product, as well as unique product photography that visualizes the products.
Product descriptions written for people, optimized for SEO
The focus is on good product descriptions that provide value to the customers and are simultaneously beneficial for SEO. Therefore, we first looked at what the products help with, how they should be used, and what complements these products. This information was written in collaboration with an experienced hairdresser, ensuring the descriptions are more than just marketing talk. This information serves as the backbone for the product descriptions. The execution of keyword research for each item was the second piece of this content puzzle. Together, they form the refined product descriptions that grant HugoNova a unique position in the market.
High-end product photos
To further extend this distinctive position, I worked on a strategy where the product photos are the star of the website. This way, the product takes center stage, and the website is visually appealing. For this, multiple shoots were done—firstly, the product photos themselves with a front, back, and distinctively tilted side view.
In addition to these basic product pictures, I created sets of creative product photos. Experiments were made with water, sand, mirrors, and leaves to visualize the products in a special way. Moreover, I chose a style per brand to create variation in the images. More on crafting compelling texts and attention-grabbing photos in 'How to Develop Killer Content with Bare-minimum Resources'.
Setting up a converting Shopify site
In setting up the Shopify site, the emphasis was primarily on optimizing conversion. With clear navigation, a mega-menu in the header for quick product searching, and finally a section about hair problems. As the research revealed that many people search for solutions to hair problems like "dry hair," this section fulfills the need for an answer to this.
